About Me

Hi, I’m Jess Greenwood.

I’m the owner and, at the moment, everything else at Green Wood Pictures.
I think one of the most important things about hiring a photographer, is knowing and liking that photographer & their business.
This page offers a bit about me & Green Wood Pictures.

Where I’m from:
I’ve lived in the Gloucestershire/ Bristol area all my life and I love it here!
It’s such a great area with outstanding natural beauty, fascinating history and a great urban scene. It’s great to be a photographer in this area as there is so much I love to capture.

My education:
I studied a  BA degree in Filmmaking & Creative media at UWE Bristol, A BTEC Nat Diploma in Media Studies and an AS Level in Photography.
I love the visual arts, one of my favourite areas of media is Installation and performance art!

Green Wood Pictures:
I started Green Wood Pictures in July 2014 with support from The Prince’s Trust & Gloucestershire Enterprise. They provided me with the skills and confidence to begin and grow my business.

The grounds of my business are built on the fact that there is a photographer out there for everyone. Whether you are a business or a private individual, no matter why you are looking to hire a photographer, you should have the right photographer for you.

This means liking their style, their ideas and as I said above, most importantly, you must like the photographer! If I am not the right photographer for you, I would much rather recommend you to someone who might be. I firmly believe that this has to be right!

Prince’s Trust Young Ambassador:
I volunteered as a Young Ambassador for the The Trust. It was a truly wonderful experience and offered me the chance to grow in so many ways.  I went from being very shy to pretty confident. During my time as an ambassador I delivered a number of speeches in front of large and small audiences. I also met some of the most amazing people along the way.

I was honoured to attend a 40th Anniversary party at Buckingham Palace and then to meet HRH Prince Charles at a reception at Highgrove.
I was then nominated for the Young Ambassador of the Year award in the Trust’s Celebrate Success awards. I was honoured to be a regional finalist alongside two of my very good friends and fellow ambassadors!

Things I like:
I love vintage styles, my favourite eras are the 1920’s & 1940’s.
I adore the elegance of the 40’s and the glitz and glamour of the 20’s – You can’t go wrong with a bit of sparkle!!

I love books! Favourite authors include: Terry Pratchett, Jasper Fforde, Truman Capote & Jane Austen (Pride & Pred is one of my favourites and who can say no to Colin Firth as Mr Darcy!)

I really love shoes and hats! Particularly high fashion couture. I like clothes that combine art & fashion! It might be well above my budget but I do love to admire.  My favourite designer is Alexander McQueen, but I do love a classic bit of Dior!

I’m still a bit of a child at heart and love Disney, especially Disney Princesses!

I like music from a lot of different genres. My upbringing was centred around the rock and alternative music as well as folk.
But I do love a bit of cheesy pop and having been born in the early 90’s I grew up with some of the best of it and there are some modern classics out there!  I also like a lot of older music, Dame Vera Lynn is one of my favourite singers.
I also like classical music and played the Clarinet for a while in my teens.

I’m fascinated by History and love being involved in the historical re-enactments, it’s great fun and means I get to meet lots of history buffs along the way!
